T-minus 5 days

As of Monday morning I will have 5 more days of working at Starbucks in the capacity that I have always known it. After Friday afternoon I will no longer be working solely in a store but now will be in charge of managing several stores. I cannot believe it!! After almost 10 years of putting on uniform and tying on that apron I will be seeing the other side of the counter on a regular basis when I go to work. There are the positives and negatives of both but I know that I will miss it.
I started at Starbucks when I was 19 years old and had no idea who I was, what I wanted to do for a living, or where I was going in life. It was just a job and something to do while I went to school at the time. I had no idea how to communicate with people or how to form a relationship with a stranger to save my life. The amount of change that I have gone through because of my job at Starbucks is unreal, and I can truly say that through all the stuff that I have experienced, I would not change a thing about the ride. I have met so many people, had amazing conversations, and been able to so many unreal things all within the framework of serving coffee. I am in full agreement with Orin Smith, former CFO, CEO and president of Starbucks, when he said, "We are in the people business serving coffee". Starbucks has never fully been about the coffee, although it is the best in the world, but about the experience and I can say that legendary experience takes place on both sides of the counter every day.
I'll keep you all posted on the progress of the new job.

New name?

With the news that we are transitioning to Oklahoma City I figured that it would no longer be appropriate to keep our blog's current name. However I'm torn as to what it should be. Please give us your feedback on what we should name it (the blog not the baby).

Good Times with Craigslist

I posted our apartment for rent on Craigslist and have received an amazing response. However today when I opened my email I saw this little gem just awaiting me in my inbox:

Do you have squirrels? I don't like squirrels. If you have squirrels, you must be willing to lower the asking price or eradicate the pests for me. I can loan you my blow gun, but due to prior misunderstandings with city officials, I cannot undertake the exterminations myself.

Don't worry. If you've ever hunter howler monkeys in Central America then Tulsa squirrels are a piece of cake in comparison!

Next, and I could probably find this out for myself, but are there any known neighborhood restrictions on pagan fertility rituals?

Finally, what smell photographic?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

I just wanted to share that with all of you. (Thanks Andy).

Kinda dorky but cool

The 18th hole at Southern Hills

So the PGA Championship has been here in Tulsa for the past week and needless to say madness had consumed this town. I was able to make it over to Southern Hills for two days of the tournament which was amazing. It's one thing to see Colonial and quite another to be involved in a major, especially the last major of the year. The course was beautiful the weather was hot, and there were more people than I have ever seen on a golf course in my life. I was able to sit right at the 18th green on Saturday and watch Erin Ells, John Daly, and many others finish their rounds on the hardest hole on the course (to say it looked challenging is an understatement).

As the last group teed off I witnessed a mass of humanity round the corner of the 18th fairway as Tiger prepared to hit his second shot. Taking a nice 5 iron he flew the ball up over two massive bunkers and past a downhill lie, which would have sent his ball back 50 yards into the fairway, onto the green. As he walked up the fairway to putt in and finish his round everyone stood to their feet and went crazy. He tipped his hat tapped his ball in and walked into the clubhouse like it was nothing. Awesome, just awesome. One thing I can confirm from being so close is that he definitely has the best teeth for a non-three putter in the PGA.

In all seriousness however, seeing him in person solidifies in my mind that he is truly as good as everyone touts and I have a better understanding as to why he is consistently number one in the world ranking time and time again. The stuff he does looks good on TV but in person is just beyond my understanding. I can now tell my children that I saw Tiger at a major...awesome!

The other cool thing was the Tiger's wife, Elin, came into my store every morning to get her and Tiger's drink to take back to him before he began his round. She was very quite but really nice and unassuming. So here is the dork in me....you might be a golfer, attorney, computer expert but I am a coffee expert...it's what I do. And here was my time to shine!!! I had the honor of making Tiger Woods latte all week long which is, to me, the best. I can honestly say that although it was a small thing, I did have a hand in making his experience in Tulsa a positive one.

On a side note: there had been rumors that he likes his lattes made with tigers milk which I neither cannot confirm not deny...it'll be my little secret which I will only release on my death bed. =) Good times!!

Updates updates updates...and updates

SO....after talking to my friend Andy the other day I have come to the conclusion that I must fire my media relations director. Yes, I know it may come to a shock to many of you but we haven't had a Lundy post for a while, and I have no one else to blame but him. So farewell media man (and thanks for the advice Andy =) ).

But back to reality...I do realize that there hasn't been much happening on the ole Lundy blog for a while so I want to apologize and take a second to update everyone on what's happening in our world. I'll try to break it all down in categories to keep it organized.

Family

The biggest news to 1613 East 19th St. is that Heather is pregnant!! As of today she is 13 weeks along and all is going well. Some of you may or may not know, but the baby road has not been an easy one for us and over the past couple of years we have experienced quite a bit of frustration, sadness and confusion over our struggle to have children. However, in Gods good timing, we got pregnant just when we least expected it and it's all worked out very well. Heather has been very ill but seems to feeling better as the weeks pass by.

We recently had our second sonogram and for the first time saw little arms, legs, mouth moving and eyes opening and closing. It is such a surreal feeling for us both and I don't think it's hit me fully just yet. However thank you to all of you who have prayed for us and kept us in your thoughts as we truly see the fruition of Gods work happening right before our eyes. Baby Lundy will be born in early February, so keep checking back for updates on his/her progress. =)

Job

As some of you know the biggest reason we moved to Tulsa was due to an opportunity I had with my job possibly advance to the next level as a district manager. Therefore it is with much happiness that I tell all of you that I was promoted to district manager and will be starting in my new position on September 10th. The position will be in Oklahoma City which means that as of this very moment we are packing things up again and preparing to move during the dog days of summer. Oklahoma City is a very promising place and we are very excited for a change of scenery. We have found a great house in Edmond (where I might be placed) which is just big enough for Heather, the baby and I plus a visitor (start taking numbers now!!!). I am excited for an opportunity to test my skills in this new arena and I am pumped to be surrounded by some great people who will be coaching and mentoring me thru the process.

Golf

Tiger Woods is 7 under here in Tulsa at the PGA Championship.

That's about all I can think about for right now. I do have so many stories and thoughts to post, so please check back in as I will make every effort to post and update the blog to let all of you readers know what's going on with the Lundys =) Thanks for reading.
